Building My Website: A Journey of Challenges, Wins & Lessons
Introduction
If you had told me a few weeks ago that I’d be knee-deep in Elementor Pro, tweaking blog templates, adjusting flexbox layouts, and clearing cache like a pro, I would have laughed.
And yet, here we are.
My website is built, my blog is live, and this is the story of how it all came together—the hurdles, the breakthroughs, and the aha moments along the way.
Step 1
The Vision vs. Reality
“I just need a simple website,” I thought. Something clean, professional, and easy to update. Nothing complicated.
Reality check: Websites don’t just happen. They are built, brick by brick (or in my case, container by container). From the header that refused to appear on blog posts to the buttons that looked perfect on desktop but enormous on mobile, every step came with its own tiny challenge.
Step 2
Finding the Right Tools
(And Learning to Use Them)
There’s nothing quite like diving into a new tool and realizing… you have no idea what you’re doing. Elementor Pro gave me infinite design possibilities, but that also meant infinite ways to mess things up.
Some things I figured out quickly in Elementor Pro:
- How to do simple things: add containers, add images, add text, etc.
- How to set up a color palette
- How to copy, paste, and duplicate objects
I also discovered some “what not to do’s” but that will be a different post. I want to keep this post positive :).
Step 4
The Final Build & What’s Next
Now, my website is live. The blog is running. And instead of feeling overwhelmed by the process, I feel empowered. If I could go from “Why is this not working?!” to “Look at this site I built!”, then anyone can.
There’s still more to do, of course—SEO tweaks, adding more content, testing for accessibility—but for now, I’m celebrating this milestone.
Other ideas and activities I want to do – now that my site is in good shape:
- Write at least one blog post per week
- Post tips and tricks on LinkedIn (I paused to rebuild my site.)
- Start posting on social sites: Instagram, TikTok etc.
Final Thoughts
Would I do it all over again? Absolutely. Would I do it alone? Probably not. Having someone (or, in my case, something—hi, AI!) to help troubleshoot, suggest fixes, and guide me through the tricky parts made all the difference.
So, if you’re thinking about building your own website, my advice? Be patient, keep learning, and don’t forget to clear your cache.
